Morphology
Polycystic ovarian syndrome morphology is defined as >12 follicles less that 11mm in diameter per ovary. Even the name “polycystic ovarian syndrome” causes consternation because a patient envisions large cysts that may rupture and cause pelvic pain; even lead to surgery or an ER visit. In fact, the cysts are tiny. They are not responding to normal stimuli for growth, maturation, ovulation and resolution. Hence, their irregular cycles.
